theres also a rar subdirectory in the hkey_classes_root hive. i can search for a specific key from the hkey_classes_root, and then edit the key so that it drops me into the rar key. this is a nice trick, as i can then search the files in the rar, and decrypt them.

theres a little extra functionality with seps encryption that, while i can get around, ill show in the nmap writeup of it. this is more of a proof of concept, and ill include links to the writeups on beyond root and of the nmap script.

all thats left to do now is brute force the encryption on the 4 file combinations that are described in the readme.txt that comes with the files. thats a lot of files to check, so it will take a while.

so i ran these commands, and found that the password i found were all the same. it was not random. theres 4 permutations, and the last two of them were always the same. below is a decrypted password that i found. while its not a super common password, there are some things to note. in particular, there are several characters that are strangely not randomly chosen, so we can rule out the existence of a more common encoded form of the password. this password was found by running a bruteforce against the the output of the seps crack, and a decryption against the files.

php is far from a fresh technology, and so i spent a good amount of time poking at its internals. the php framework is what would be expected, but it contained a number of interesting features not normally found in other php implementations. what i found most interesting was the the use of strtoupper()/strtolower() in base_convert() which were vulnerable to a number of edge cases. one of the most interesting being an inverted number comparison in strtolower(). in this case, the lowest number in an array gets converted to upper case. this is a perfect fix for a single use, and a very precise issue. using base_convert(), i found a fix for this issue.
