the last installment of the conjuring series, the nun, came out in 2015 and was received well by critics and fans alike. the first installment was a sleeper hit that got lucky with the marketing. with the nun 2, aarons is hoping to bring that kind of luck back to the series. the conjuring may have failed to make its mark on the box office, but the films reputation grew massively over time thanks to word of mouth, and to the acclaim for such dark and bizarre films as cabin in the woods, sinister, and wolfman. thats the kind of street cred aarons hopes to bring back to her script for the nun 2. the nun is also only the second film in the franchise to gross more than $100 million, something that was not achieved with the first installment.

ghosts was certainly not the biggest movie of the day. but its a fascinating look at music, film, humor and acting from master director winston, who has gone on to become a renowned make up artist. the short was never intended as a “serious” movie, just a fun thing to do during a tough time for jackson, whose finances were in shambles. but it was a quirky and very entertaining start to stan winston studios, founded by the legendary movie effects master in 1992.

michael jackson ghosts is not a low-quality movie or a technical marvel. its just a timeless gem that needs to be appreciated for its bizarre charm. in fact, the short is so unusual and out-there that it feels like a one-off thing. i guess in the days of mtv and dreamworks and snapple ads, the short was an odd but somehow liberating experience for the michael jackson estate. the worlds sloppiest artist creating something that looks more like a tim burton movie than a saturday morning show? its safe to say that this type of film is good for the soul in a time where it feels like everything has been reduced to a mad max-style shlockfest.

proudly powered by the latest version of wordpress. what inspired me to start this was my fascination with the simpsons. its homer’s favorite movie, and quite frankly, when it was released in theaters, i cried at the end. the last scene of the movie is incredible. while it may not be my favorite episode, it does have a spot in my heart and its something i never tire of. i decided to try to do a top 10 list, not for best episode, because ive seen too many. im just going to do my favorite scenes. in order, my top 5 episodes, in descending order: rainier wolfcastle. homer gets thrown in jail for being a witness for a gang of counterfeiters. so many questions. bart the genius. homer hires bart as his lawyer. kamp krusty. grampa teaches odyssey.
its hard to believe, but my all time favorite, aside from thriller, was history. i want to say that the music video for surrender, done by jimmy sommerville, is also fantastic. the concepts and the way it was shot, from the horrid sound the kids are called horrible names, to the ghastly eerie kids, to the tiny girl dancing with the dude. this is one of the most clever videos ever made. song that has always stood out for me:  if you can, be my baby. its such a great song. the lyrical content and the story are great. its a booty-call song, being sent on a booty-call, with an otherwise lonely man actually begging to be the baby of someone else. i just always liked that. it was one of his last videos, and his first to be directed by spike jonze.
