This is a simple guide on installing the latest version of dcraw
on your Windows 64 Bit operating system.

One of the first steps to take when working with digital cameras is to download and install the latest dcraw software onto your Windows 64 Bit operating system. Once installed, you will be able to process image captures taken with almost any camera that uses dcraw (with its wide range of supported sensor sizes) and then post processed via this powerful utility. Some other benefits are quick access to output settings for PowerPoint presentations, file support, support for Raw files saved by specific camera models (including Leica M8), and support for newer USB 3 port-based cameras (Blackmagic Ursa, Canon 5D Mark IV).

If this is your first time installing a 64 Bit operating system, before installing any software you should always back up any important files just in case you have a problem. You can do this with a number of different strategies, including use of the Windows Explorer Control-Shift-Escape shortcut to save a file as a copy on your local hard drive or use the Windows built-in backup features which will automatically create a backup every time you make changes to your PC.

Once the installation completes, open the program by launching it from the start menu, which is typically C:\Program Files\

This will open two windows, one labeled dcraw and another with additional settings and features below. This window’s frame is gray in color and displays
a clock in its center with a small icon of a camera in its right side. The bottom left side of the DCRaw application provides soft buttons for  settings and tools that can be launched from this tool bar: White Balance, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual Mode. Other buttons are labeled Manual,  toggling between raw and JPEG processing, launching the ReadMe document, and launching a file browser to view or change specific settings per image.

The second window is the work area for specific images, where the image will be displayed after being processed is also displayed here. The right side is populated with controls for the histogram, tools to open the RAW original, Open DNG previews of images or photo metadata information provided by your camera or imaging software.
The top of the DEVILRAY application frame displays three tabs for Basic Tones (Brightness Curve),  Color Toning (Saturation) and Tone Mapping (Luminance Curve). In addition, there is a third tab, labeled Image Processing, which displays a number of options for the application.
“From the Image -> Settings menu you may choose to save a specific dcraw preset or load one from another” image. Clicking on this button will open a dialog box that will present three options: Open DNG Previews Folder for Images, Load Preset and Save Preset.

Another feature is a drop down menu from the top right corner of the main application frame  (labeled Presets) which offers an option to open view specific  dcraw settings by clicking on it.
